The competition takes place tomorrow. Ben and West both entered and based on the sample CDs they sent in were both selected to play tomorrow.
Ben won this competition two years ago on violin which means he can’t enter again on that instrument. He decided to enter on piano this year (playing the Liszt Piano Concerto no. 1). West is playing the last movement of the Beethoven Violin Concerto.
West would prefer it if Ben wasn’t competing against her but it’s not as if he’s guaranteed to win. There are thirteen students in the competition tomorrow and we really don’t know which way it will go. Steve plans to audio-record their performances as usual.
