Ben and West played in a violin recital last Saturday. Ben played the cadenza and fourth movement of Shostakovich’s first violin concerto. West played an excerpt of the first movement of Barber’s violin concerto.

Steve recorded their performances (audio only):

West: West
Ben: Ben

I also videoed clips on my camera. They don’t sound great but it’s fun to see what the playing looks like. Ben played the cadenza again in a masterclass last night. The camera clips of him are from last night. I was turning pages on Saturday, so I couldn’t take any clips then. I think it went better last night but the sound from Saturday’s recording will be way better. (There are four clips – click ‘read the rest’ to get to all of them from my home page)

  1. Hi Helen, it’s great to hear you in your own voice and element on this blog. This is Mike Morrell, from that loooong stretch of TeamPyro threads. I wanted to commend you for the unassuming manner in which you’re replying to all of the Reformed folk over there. I think your character is beginning to wear off on them, as I detect their tone toward you (some of them, at least) growing more civil. I know they mean well, even when they’re being shrill. I spent the better part of four years in a conservative Reformed church, and learned much…if you decide to stick around with them, you won’t do terribly. But I also commend you for your honesty, and your struggle. I hope being around those of us who are emerging from/to new expressions of faith doesn’t leave you too bewildered in the myriad of options. I know that many more conservative/modern believers feel threatened and confused in the face of such ambiguity and complexity. If you ever want to stop by my blog and say hello, feel free…talk to you later…
