There’s a school chamber music concert coming up (February 22) which all students in choir, band or orchestra are invited to participate in. They can participate individually or as part of an ensemble and they can play whatever music they want.

West is going to play a shortened version of Battle Suite Battle Suite (written by her), with a couple of friends: she’s arranged it for violin, flute and piano. Ideally she would have more instruments involved but practically that’s difficult to organize.

Ben is going to play the Veggie Tales theme tune (not written by him ;-)) arranged by him for about six string players. Last year he was in the same concert, with the same group, playing an arrangement of his of music from Pirates of the Caribbean.

Ben’s also been asked to accompany some students who are singing in the concert on the piano.

  1. I wish your children the best at their music concert and I’ll save good thoughts for them. Your kids sound very smart and talented.

Do they ever get nervous during performances? My son left orchestra because he hated being on stage. My older daughter, on the other hand, attended the performing arts high school here in Dallas in the Drama cluster and is going for a degree in Musical Theater /Performance at the University of North Texas.

  2. Thanks Laura.

I think they get a little nervous but not enough to mess up their performances. I get way more nervous than them and I’m only accompanying, or part of the orchestra!

I don’t think they got nervous at all when they were very young – Ben started playing when he was 4, West when she was 3.
