It’s a book about women’s responses to how they’re treated in church. It mostly consists of interviews with or stories of women who have resigned themselves to their church situation (some of them are fine with it), or resigned from church, or re-signed up in a situation where they are treated better and valued more. I appreciate Jim’s desire to help women by writing a book about women, in which most of the voices are women. And I appreciate his willingness to include women whose views about womens roles disagree with his own.

One chapter tells my story in detail of why I resigned from church, including the role my mental health problems played about a decade ago. It’s probably the most complete and coherent version of my story out there. After all it was professionally edited!

I received a copy of the book last week and was very interested to read the other womens’ interviews and stories. I like reading peoples’ stories: they are fascinated and complicated and I find myself responding to them in unexpected ways.

A website has been set up for The Resignation of Eve. If you read the book and want to post feedback, share your own story or interact with the women in who Jim talks with in the book (this part of the site is coming soon) you can do so there.

I flew out with him to help him carry his luggage and pick up some essentials (like bedding) near campus. We left home for the airport at 4am, did the shopping and got to Ben’s dorm at around 12pm. I had to leave a couple of hours later because I wanted to get home by midnight. But I was very pleased I got to see some of the campus and Ben’s room and meet his roommate Austin and his mother for a couple of minutes. They’re very friendly. I’m sure Ben will have an awesome time at Stanford.

Ben and Darcy’s Graduation Recital was last weekend. It was mostly violin and viola but Ben also played a short piano piece – Intermezzo by Brahms, Op. 118 no. 2.
