Both Ben and Esther did very well in piano guild this year. They always do well but this year they got the highest scores they’ve ever had.
Their teacher encourages them to play 10 guild pieces so they will get a national guild award certificate. Esther was the only one of her students who chose to do 15 pieces this year and get an international award certificate.
Esther’s comments
Esther, you are a sensitive, committed young musician. Truly the “icing on the cake” for your lovely program was your concerto! Each difficulty and challenge handled like a pro. Thank you for making my day – Congratulations to you and your fine teacher.
Ben’s comments
Ben, what a wonderful you pianist you are. Memory on the Barber was rock solid secure (difficult to achieve on contemporary repertoire) and with a sparkling cadenza! Bravo to you and your diligent teacher, as well!!

Esther’s school orchestra playing The Godfather
Last night we went to Esther’s final school orchestra concert at her middle school. The video is of them playing the theme from The Godfather. Esther was concertmaster for this concert. She’s just to the left of the conductor, with the black headband.
About two thirds of the way through Esther has a solo – she plays the theme by herself while the rest of the orchestra accompanies her.

Ben and Esther played in a violin recital this afternoon. Ben played the first movement of Prokofiev’s 2nd violin concerto and Esther played Zapateado by Sarasate (accompanied by Ben on the piano). Continue reading »
