We were excited to receive the phone call the winners get this evening. Ben tied for first place with the Liszt.
There were two first place and two second place winners. Esther was not feeling her best today because she has a cold. She played well especially considering how she was feeling, but she didn’t place among the winners.
This year unlike in previous years we weren’t allowed to watch – only the judges were allowed in the room. However, one of the judges kindly used our mini-recorder to record the performances for us. Hopefully Steve will have time to put them on his site soon.
The competition takes place tomorrow. Ben and Esther both entered and based on the sample CDs they sent in were both selected to play tomorrow.
Ben won this competition two years ago on violin which means he can’t enter again on that instrument. He decided to enter on piano this year (playing the Liszt Piano Concerto no. 1). Esther is playing the last movement of the Beethoven Violin Concerto.
Esther would prefer it if Ben wasn’t competing against her but it’s not as if he’s guaranteed to win. There are thirteen students in the competition tomorrow and we really don’t know which way it will go. Steve plans to audio-record their performances as usual.

I started 4.5 mg of Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) on November 1, a little over a week ago.
I’m also continuing on Humira, one shot every other week (today is a Humira day). I’ve read that since Humira suppresses the immune system and LDN stimulates it it’s not good to take them together but my doctor thought it would be ok. Also she doesn’t want me stopping Humira since it seems to be helping a little. I still have significant symptoms but I think some things have improved since I started it six weeks ago.
From what I’ve read LDN increases the release of endorphins in the 24 hours after you take it and these help rebalance and heal the immune system. Many people with illnesses influenced by the immune system not working correctly have found it helpful.
