Here are all the photos I took when we were with my extended family. The slideshow is below (move the mouse to the top right corner to adjust the speed), or you can watch a bigger version on flickr.
We stayed in Llanfairfechan along the North Wales coast in our second week of vacation.
We were in the Towers, a large house at the coast with enough space for the 16 members of my extended family (8 adults and 8 children). As you can see it has a tower on it accessible by a narrow winding staircase. The house was built for the Harbourmaster; however, the Harbour was never built!
The following slideshow is of all my Llanfairfechan pictures. I didn’t upload the other photos from Wales yet. A lot of these are of us on the beach. There was a large sandy beach by the house with a stream which obviously needed damming and diverting (we thought so, anyway).
In between showers and when the tide wasn’t all the way in we headed for the beach and got to work. Continue reading »
We spent the first week of our vacation (holiday) in Northumberland.
Steve and I really like Northumberland. We were there with my extended family in 2004 and were happy to go back this year with Steve’s parents, who’d never been there. Narrow country roads wind their way to the sandy coastline past fields, through small picturesque villages. Other parts of England are pretty like this too but it seems less busy in Northumberland and feels unspoilt. There were no cities or huge roads in the area we stayed.
Our rented house was in Bamburgh which is small and pretty. It feels like a village except for the huge castle set on a rocky outcrop between the village and the ocean, visible for miles around.
Except when it’s foggy. Then you can’t even see it from Bamburgh. Continue reading »
