Steve Steve moderated a general session at the Casualty Actuarial Society’s Spring Meeting in Quebec earlier this month.

Last night the piano teacher had a few students come to her studio and play.

Esther played In The Meadow by Lichner. Ben played the first movement of the Grieg Piano Concerto (he has not had time to get it to the level he’d like for a regular recital). Ben and another student, Robin, also played all of Schumann’s Scenes from Childhood. They shared out the 13 scenes between them. Ben and Robin only had a week to learn two of them each because their teacher found out a week ago that the students she assigned four of them to couldn’t come.

As of today I’ve been off psych meds five years.

You can read about why I was on them here. At that time my psychiatrist agreed that I could taper down and then stop altogether after I’d been stable on them for two years. That time came and in March 2003 he let me start tapering down. On June 18, 2003 he said I could stop taking meds but should go back on if I start having symptoms again.

I’m not suggesting anyone should stop taking helpful medication. I wanted to know if I could manage without it.

I was hoping I’d be five years completely meds free today. It hasn’t worked out that way because of Crohn’s Disease. But I’m still pleased I’ve made it to five years without psych meds.

 

The Windy City String Ensemble’s year end concert was on Friday and the piano recital was yesterday. They both went very well. Steve recorded the piano recital but his recordings aren’t up yet.
