I was told to expect the drinking barium and being X-rayed a lot test would take 2-4 hours but it only took about 1. I was very happy about that. Also (especially) that it didn’t reveal any major new problems. At least I don’t think it did.

It was neat that I could see what the radiologist could see on the screen as she ‘explored’. Sort of like an ultrasound but interesting in a different way. She was great – she told me what she was looking for and what she did and didn’t find. I thought I might have to wait for my doctor’s appointment Friday to find out how this test went. But the radiologist gave me a good idea. I don’t know how the test results will affect my treatment until I talk to the doctor.

Ben just took his first semester finals and the second semester has begun. His overall results for his first semester at high school were straight As. I think Esther also has straight As.

Esther has arranged the theme music from Bewitched and is rehearsing it with two friends (keyboard, violin and flute) for a school chamber concert in a few weeks. The concert at which she’ll receive her honorable mention certificate is tonight. We found out there was one winner and two honorable mentions for the piece she played, so she was in the top 3. (For this competition they gave just a few choices of pieces you could play) We got her judges’ comments back: she got 2 91s and a 97 out of 100. Continue reading »

Esther played the first movement of the Kabalevsky violin concerto in the DePaul concerto festival for young musicians on Sunday.

She wasn’t feeling well at the weekend and almost didn’t go. I’m glad she did because even with not feeling her best the judges called her teacher yesterday and said she received an ‘honorable’ mention. They want her to be at the winners’ concert to receive a certificate.

It was a ‘closed’ competition – no audience – so I wasn’t able to record it. I thought it sounded pretty good as best I could tell from outside the door. Evidently the judges agreed!

Nick was kind enough to tape an interview with me a few weeks ago which just went up on the Nick and Josh Podcast site. The topic is Mental Disorders and Faith Communities. Nick also asked me about being almost an atheist.

It was fun to talk with Nick a little after the podcast and find out what’s going on in his life.

Josh wasn’t involved in this particular interview – but I know him a little because I’m the website manager of Off The Map and he’s been helping with various Off The Map web design projects. Josh completely redesigned our Off The Map and Doable Evangelism sites and created a Jim and Casper page. Josh has been great to work with. If you need some design work check out his business site, Red Cowboy Designs.

Here are some links where I’ve written about some of the topics covered in the podcast:
