Ben came seventh in the Mathcounts state competition, which about 200 students participated in. It was a very good result, but not unfortunately good enough to go to the National Competition. Only the top four competitors get to that.
Since Ben was in the top ten, he participated in the oral countdown round at the end of the state competition. He came fourth in that and got a trophy for it. Ben will be too old to do Mathcounts again – it only goes up to eighth grade. But he plans to enter high school math competitions next year.
Esther played the Roumanian Dances by Bartok in the violin recital. She played wonderfully! Steve recorded her – the audio recording is here: Bartok’s Romanian Dances. Here’s a short video I took with my camera:
