This is the latest response I sent to the Wednesday Journal, in the dialog between me and Rev. Dean Lueking. It’s on their website here. It’s a response to The search to know God, the gift of being known by God by Rev Lueking, published by the newspaper in December.

Dean, in your most recent response to me, you asked about sharing with me what you have learned from people who live in other countries. I would be happy to read about what they’ve taught you.

You also asked: “Would you or anybody else make up a God who comes to us in the form of a suffering servant, an itinerant rabbi who was nailed to a Roman cross for the sins of the world? Would you invent a risen Christ who turned traitorous disciples into trustworthy witnesses with Good News to spread, down through the centuries, even to us in our time?”

I think you were implying the answer is “No.” However, I can’t categorically say that no one would make up a God like that. People are creative, and the stories they make up are sometimes strange, unusual, moving and beautiful.

IMG_4997 Steve is going to be in London and Paris next week doing training, starting tomorrow (Monday).

His plan was to fly to London on the day flight today – he would have been landing about now (4:30ish Chicago time). However we found out early this morning his flight was cancelled because of the storm which came through this weekend.

According to a CNN/Associate Press report on the storm: “The storm’s snow, sleet and freezing rain led airlines to cancel 200 flights Sunday at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport and about 35 at Midway Airport, said Wendy Abrams, Chicago Department of Aviation spokeswoman.”

So he’s at the airport now waiting to board the first not-cancelled American Airline flight to London today, hoping it will leave and not too late. As it is he will already have to go straight to the office and begin training when he arrives, instead of getting a few hours sleep at a hotel – which was his original and preferred schedule!

Update: his flight finally left 4 1/2 hours late. (At least it wasn’t cancelled)

My Dad is training to become a volunteer advocate. This seems like a really neat way to help people.

The concert was last night and went well. Esther played Battle Suite, written and arranged by her, with two friends. Ben played the theme from Veggie Tales, arranged by him, with three friends playing with him and two singing. Here are a couple of clips:
