Since we’re English, we listened to Big Ben strike midnight on BBC Radio 4 on the Internet. Happy New Year!

I went grocery shopping this morning, not because I wanted to but because I needed some things.
Even though I don’t especially like grocery shopping, I realized when I was there that I was enjoying it more than I’d enjoy Sunday morning church. Here are some reasons:
- I could go when I liked – I went early so it fit in with my family’s schedule
- I could go at my own pace – I didn’t have to sit through any boring stuff and I left as soon as I was done
- All my interactions were fun and comfortable – I had two fun conversations and no awkward ones. I suppose that might happen if I went to church but it seems unlikely these days
- The person in charge was very kind to me – I accidentally met the overall store manager (whom I’d never met before) when I was looking for help with an out of stock item. He was very nice to me: respectful, friendly, chatty, helpful. My recent experience with people in charge of churches has been very mixed, to the point that I would feel very uncertain what sort of reception I would receive from their person/people in charge.
- It was demonstrably beneficial – now I have dinner for today and tomorrow and more coffee for the coffee maker I received for Christmas.
I guess it’s no surprise that I don’t go to church anymore.

Esther is joining the rest of us and getting glasses. She had an eye-test today and chose frames. I’ll post a photo of Esther in her cool new glasses once she gets them (they’ll take about a week to make).
